The Larchmont Six

Last fall , "the Larchmont Six," agreed to a set of parameters for making official one-design rules for the Soverel 33. George McCarthy and I have been diligently working and negotiating to codify that agreement in the form of a formal class association. We are now distributing the rules to our original group as Fleet 1 Northeast of the Soverel 33 Class Association for feedback. Once we are in agreement, we will send to the rest of Soverel 33 racers and solicit membership.

We hope that we have captured the spirit if not the letter of our agreement in defining the rules that explain both a class organization and measurement rules. Rules that are inclusive and fair to the majority of racers is not an easy thing and you will see some restrictions like J dimension, hoist height and headstay length that we negotiated after long discussion. We involved sailmakers in reviewing the specifics and feel comfortable that these are fair and inclusive. As the original Larchmont Six, you can vote approval on these by sending a $100 check to:

Alternatively, e-mail us with any concerns or issues and we'll try to address them. I will be setting up a checking account for the class and working on some nonprofit status. Our goal is to get quick approval and send this out to the nationwide ownership by the end of January. That announcement would solicit membership, announce a 2001 National Championship race to be held at Larchmont NOOD as well as other class sanctioned one-design opportunities. It would also request candidates for class offices to be voted on at our annual meeting, which will coincide with the National Championships as outlined in these class rules.
