II. Old Business
Discussed attendance
at Lake Norman Midwinters (7 boats), Chicago NOOD (4 boats), Duck Island Soverel
Events (5 boats), ongoing Nationals (10 boats), and upcoming Lake Normal Fall
One Design Regatta (maybe 7 or 8 boats?)
B. New fleet recognition
( Fleet 2 - N. Carolina, Fleet 3 - Chesapeake) Who is fleet captains for fleet
3?
Since there were
no representatives from Lake Norman or the Chesapeake in attendance, this topic
was not covered.
III. New business
A. Election of Class
Secretary and New President, Fleet Captains Nominees?
When Peter d'Anjou
sold his boat Gryphon, he became ineligible as Class Secretary
- Treasurer and this position was vacated (see
Class Rule IV.A). Bill Adikes, Saucy Girl, would also like
to step down as Class President. A standing ovation was held in his honor for
his many years of service to the Soverel 33 Class. Hopefully Bill will still
remain active in the class as part of the Class Committee (see
Class Rule IV.C.)
John Coughlin,
2-Thirsty, volunteered to assist with the mailings for both the
election of class officers and on the proposed amendments to the Rules (see
below).
An active discussion
was held concerning the 2003 Schedule. Erik Will, Bushwacker,
and Jerry Dodge, Yankee, proposed including a Great Lakes event,
such as the Chicago NOOD or an event at Sodus Bay, Key West, Lake Norman, St.
Petersburg, the Chesapeake, Duck Island, and also Block Island were also discussed.
A consensus being that we should develop a Circuit that would try to include
as many areas in the Soverel 33 one-design schedule as possible. Bill Heintz,
Deviation, volunteered to develop and e-mail a proposed "Soverel
Circuit" to see what sort of turnouts would be expected at each location.
C. 2003 Nationals Location
John Coughlin,
2-Thirsty, presented an appealing proposal to hold the 2003 Nationals
to Duck Island, in West Brook CT, and the 2003 Larchmont NOOD was proposed,
no other proposals were presented. After a vote was taken, Larchmont was decided
as the location for the 2003 Soverel 33 Nationals, on the ground that the Sailing
World NOOD regatta is good exposure for the class and that many of the logistics
for the regatta are already established. It was also proposed that the following
weekend a Duck Island Soverel OD regatta could be planned to give the traveling
boats more of an incentive to travel to this location.
Norm Dean, Whacko,
proposed that Class Rule IV.C be amended such that Associate Members (e.g. Non-boat
owning members) be allowed to hold office. Exact wording will be mailed out
and voted on in accordance with Class Rule VIII.A.
IV. Other Business
Patrick Croke,
Adrenaline, brought up the topic of boat measurement, alterations,
and what explicitly is allowed by the class. Perhaps due to the hour and "popularity"
of the subject, perhaps this discussion didn't get as much attention as it might
have otherwise generated. Erik Will, Bushwacker, suggested that we must
be self policing and the boats should measure into to the "Box Rules" (see
Class Rules III.A). It was agreed that no alterations or stiffening should
be made that are not already grandfathered in class as outlined by the "Heavy
Air Tourniquet," "Stiffening
the Hull," "Keel Sump
Repair" or "Tartan Shroud Base Repair,"
excepting that repairs can be made to return the boat to racing condition that
do not otherwise enhance the performance of the boat.
